Run Your Own Race
By Jennifer Smith
I grew up in a home with loving, caring parents and two siblings. Our parents taught us many of the basics of life right from childhood, through our teen years, and even continued to teach and coach us well into our adult years. When we were young, we thought our parents were too strict - especially compared to our friends' parents. As we moved into our teen years, we did not at the time appreciate why we had firm rules, a roster of chores, and were expected to regularly attend church. Although during our teen years we thought that our life was a bit tough and our parents' were being quite unfair, we selfishly failed to notice that they were also continually encouraging us to grow into morally responsible, driven, motivated, mature, and creative individuals. Thanks Mom and Dad for loving us, teaching us, and letting us have the self-confidence, drive, and determination to "Run Our Own Race." |
